Book Art

I have been wanting to try this project for a while and it was the perfect little project for today.

Round up an exacto knife (to make sure the page comes out of the book clean instead of ripped), a felt tip pen (especially if your book is old so the paper doesn't rip), painters tape for clean edges and a clear ruler to make this project super easy!

1. Tape off the edges. I always stick my tape a couple of times to my pants or shirt so that it's less tacky. Super important step for delicate old book pages.

2. Outline your quote with pencil.

3. Take your straight edge ... Or in my case, piece of wood because I was too lazy to search for a ruler, and make a few guidelines. I went diagonally from the corners of the rectangle I drew around my quote. I messed up the first page I tried because I drew a line through my quote. So the second time I used tape to cover up my quote while drawing my lines.

4. Once I drew my guide lines to get the right angles, I pretty much free handed the rest of my lines.

5. Carefully remove the tape. Frame and admire.

It's the perfect addition to our gallery wall. We are trying to fill it with prints from our travels, a map of our old neighborhood, artwork, etc.

Enjoying a super lazy Saturday after a long week!

Re:Create - Free Fire Starters

Maybe I am really odd, but I have always thought there must be something to do with all that dryer lint. I have put it outside for the birds a couple of times but it rarely was touched by any of the birdies near our house. Then I stumbled across this idea on pinterest. What I love about it is it's completely recycled, completely free and super easy.

Step 1 - gather supplies. I have a bin full of dryer sheets and lint in my laundry room. I rounded up some toilet paper tubes and a newspaper magazine I picked up off my driveway.

Step 2 - stuff dryer lint into tube leaving about 1/2 an inch on either side to tuck the newspaper in. (I used approximately one loads worth of lint per tube, so you might need to stock pile a bit.)

Step 3 - Roll. My newspaper pieces were squares and that worked great. I rolled them on the diagonal and folded the far corner in so that when I tucked the ends into the tube there wasn't a pesky corner sticking out.

2nd reason I love this idea so much.... My dad made me an amazing fire pit, and this is the perfect and easiest way to light it even if my wood is a little damp. Now im not sure if the fire offsets how environmentally friendly this project is ....but I'm going to pretend I am being super green,

All set for chilly nights and ready for Marshmellows!
